An Interesting Article

I found this article on CNN.com today, and it seems to be very relevant to our Latin American Studies Course. It is about the former Chilean dictator General Augusto Pinochet. Although we have not talked about him, he seems to be a very important part of Chilean History. Here it is, Enjoy

I can assure you that we will come across Pinochet again in the course. What is bothersome to me about the whole current Pinochet situation is that the man is so old that any punishment or retribution meted out to him is likely to be for symbolic reasons only: it certainly won't seem to compensate in any fair sense for the atrocities committed during his dictatorship. I know the process of holding Pinochet accountable is a very delicate one, but I wish that the Chileans had acted sooner, when a trial and conviction could really mean something, to take this important step for national healing. But, better late than never, as they say.
