Cuba Bans Smoking in Enclosed Public Areas

I found an article on Cnn about how Cuba, the place most well known for cigars, is going to implement a no-smoking policy in many enclosed Public Areas, which goes into effect starting February 7. It seems that people are finally realizing that Cigars and Cigarettes are actually harmful to the human bodies of those people not doing the smoking too.

You know, this is an interesting case for comparison. And the mention of New York in the comment by mathaihurts only brings into sharper relief this comparison. What is this comparison, you ask? It is that Cuba, as a communist dictatorship, bans cigar/cigarette smoking indoors for as a public health measure -- one that does definite good for the health of Cubans. But that in New York, banning a substance that causes harm to the health not only of the smokers, but also of those unwillingly subject to it via second hand transmission, is criticized as a slap against individual freedom. So, what's better - a communist dictatorship that can enforce a policy that obviously benefits the well-being of its citizens; or a "free" society that chafes at abridging one's rights to harm not only one's own health, but the health of others. Interesting, don't you think?
