Chile has just elected Michele Bachelet as thier first woman president. This win for Bachelet is a win for women all over Latin America who for the most part feel are treated as inferiors to men. With her term comes a hope for increased women's rights in a region that has such a machismo attitude. While there have been a few female presidents in Latin America, she is the first to win with out the help of a politically active husband.
