Defender of the Drug Lords
This New York Times article talks about Silvia Raquenel Villanueva a Mexican lawyer. Her clients consist mainly of powerful drug lords. Her work is very unpopular and people have attempted to kill her four times. It is interesting to see her try to justify her clients. Her motives are not simply that everyone deserves a fair trial. Granted we all have our opinion about whats what....however, we need to keep in mind.....the rules need to apply across the board.....and even though we may not like who Silvia Raquenel Villanueva represents and gets off free.....we need to applaud that the system is allowing for fair representation for every citizen.
It is unfortunate that the death threats continue....but that is a part of the territory and she is willing to endure it.
