New presence on Texas-Mexico border

This AP article that I read in the Seattle Times reports Texas governor Rick Perry's announcement that he will send teams of Texas Rangers to the Mexican border. The article didn't mention the scale of it, and his election opponent called it an "empty promise", so it will be interesting to see if this move has any effect on the Mexican gangs that are allegedly causing border violence.
