President Colom of Guatemala has declared a national food crisis and is seeking international aid to buy food for many Guatemalans. Here is a short video from Al Jazeera English Publications that expands on the depth of the crisis.
As we have discussed in class, there are high levels of inequality in Guatemala and the Mayan population (40 percent) is especially marginalized.
