As mentioned previously in class, Nicaragua is considering a plan to construct a canal, connecting the Atlantic to the Pacific. The canal would cost an estimated 25 billion dollars but would be large enough to handle ships that are too large in size and weight to use the current canal in Panama.

i feel like the idea of the canal in nicaragua is nothing new. i was reading about it and there was extensive US intervention in the country including deployment of ground forces which many attribute to US interest in a canal. Further, there have always been talks about the possibility of a dry canal through nicaragua consisiting of railroad abilities to carry freight. I feel that a 25 billion dollar project is not neccessary in an era when ships are built specially to fit the panama canal and have no difficulty there.
