It seems that leftist Lopez Obrador has lost a large portion of his support in his bid to be president as many of his supporters are conceding victory to Calderon. Check out the whole story here.
I think that this is a particularly interesting development especially given the amount of speculation of what may happen immediately after the election. With Obrador promising to take his actions to its "ultimate consequence" the reality suggested in this article is that stoic mexico really is stoic.
Perhaps, if such support really is weakening, the institutional strength of Mexico is stronger than what most people thought, and thus, the ability for a demagogic candidate to undermine the system really isn't much of a reality.
Ultimately, perhaps Obrador has done something good unintentionally. By challenging the system and failing, perhaps Obrador proved two things: 1. genuine protest can be held peacefully and disputes can be levied agains the government 2. institutional practices prevail over heady personalism and dinosaurio politics.
